Which medium should I choose?
The first thing to ask yourself is whether you want a physical piece or a digital file. That one decision shapes everything else, including cost and turnaround time.
A quick note before you decide: physical paintings can be photographed and scanned to create a digital file, and that file can then be used on a product. But the cost of making the original piece by hand still stands. You're paying for the artwork first, and any printing or products on top of that.
Similarly, if you have a digital portrait made and would like it printed on a product through my shop, that's absolutely possible. The product just isn't included in the portrait price.
With that in mind, here's what's on offer:
Physical options:
Acrylic: You're getting bold, rich color. You're getting real texture and visible brushstrokes. You're getting someone who has genuinely looked at your animal and made deliberate choices about how to bring them to life on canvas. Acrylic portraits are warm and expressive and full of personality. The joy, the calm, the silliness, the serenity. Whatever makes your pet yours, that's what ends up in the paint. Depending on the size you order, your portrait will be painted on high quality acrylic paper or stretched canvas on wood. Smaller sizes are available on acrylic paper only.
Ink: Bold linework meets ethereal washes. Ink portraits combine strong, deliberate lines with the soft, flowing quality you get from watercolor, giving you something that feels both graphic and delicate at the same time. If your aesthetic leans clean and minimal, this is a great fit. It also works beautifully for anyone drawn to a field guide or naturalist style. And while ink can go as detailed and complex as your brief calls for, it naturally allows for more white space and variation in linework than a fully painted piece. All ink portraits are done on high quality acid free paper and shipped flat.
Digital:
Digital: Done entirely in my own drawing style, with loose linework, bold outlines, and a very clear likeness to your animal. Need a small tweak? Easy. Want botanical elements or a decorative frame added? Also easy. You'll receive your portrait as a high resolution download, ready to print however and wherever you like. Want me to handle the printing? I can print on high quality paper, canvas, or on a product like a mug, tote, or phone case. Just know that printing and products are priced separately from the portrait itself.
If you are unsure, I am happy to recommend a medium based on your animal and your aesthetic preferences. Just describe what you are drawn to when you enquire.
Good reference photos are the most important thing. I ask for:
At least 3–5 photos of your animal, taken in natural light where possible
A clear, in-focus image of the face — this is the most important reference
Photos from different angles if available
A short description of your animal's personality, any distinguishing features you want captured, and anything that makes them uniquely themselves
The more you can tell me about your animal as an individual, the more the portrait will reflect who they actually are rather than simply what they look like.
Honestly, it depends on two things: the complexity of your piece and how quickly we move through the process together.
Here is a rough guide to creation time once work has begun:
Small pieces (ACEO, A5): 1 to 2 days
Medium pieces (A4, A3): 2 to 3 days
Larger canvases (30x40 and above): 3 to 5 days
Digital portraits: 1 to 2 days
Tarot style portraits: 2 to 4 days
These are estimates for the creation process itself. The overall timeline from booking to receiving your piece also depends on how quickly we move through the composition study and revision stages together, and that part is a two way street.
Here is how the response window works:
Once I send you a composition study or a revision you have seven days to respond. If I have not heard from you after seven days I will send a friendly reminder. If there is still no response after fourteen days your commission will be placed on hold until we reconnect.
This is not about rushing you. It is about keeping the process moving so you receive your piece as quickly as possible. The faster we move through the back and forth together, the sooner your artwork is in your hands.
Please also bear in mind that if you have a specific deadline in mind, let me know when you enquire. I will always do my best to accommodate where I can.
Before any creative work begins on your final piece I will send you a composition study. This is a rough sketch showing how your portrait is going to be arranged. Where your animal is positioned, how the botanical elements are placed, how the overall piece is going to feel. It is not a finished drawing. It is a map of where we are headed together.
This is your moment to make sure everything feels right before I commit to the final piece. You have two rounds of revisions on the composition study, so if something is not sitting right we sort it here rather than further down the line.
Once you approve the composition study, creative work on your final piece begins.
A revision is a meaningful change to the composition or finished piece. Moving an animal's position, swapping a botanical element, adjusting the overall layout. That counts as a revision. Small things like minor color adjustments or slight tweaks to a line are not counted as revisions and are part of the natural back and forth of the process.
You have two rounds of revisions at two separate stages of your commission:
Two revisions on your composition study before creative work begins. This is the time to make sure the layout, positioning, and overall feel are exactly what you envisioned.
Two revisions on your finished piece once I have delivered the completed work. This is the time to address anything that is not sitting right in the final execution.
That gives you four opportunities across the entire process to shape and refine your piece before it is finalised.
If you feel you need changes beyond those included revisions, additional revisions are available at an extra cost. Get in touch and we will work out the details together.
Yes. Every physical commission is a one of a kind original piece of art made entirely by hand. No prints, no reproductions. Just the real thing, made specifically for you and your animal.
The only exception is digital commissions, which are by default delivered as a high resolution download. That is simply the most affordable and fastest option. But digital does not have to mean download only. Your digital artwork can also be ordered as a print on high quality paper, on canvas, or on merchandise like mugs, totes, and phone cases. Just let me know what you are after when you enquire and we will make it happen.
Physical paintings can also go beyond the wall. Original pieces can be photographed and scanned at high resolution, giving you the option to have your artwork printed on merchandise as well. Either way, your art can live in more places than one if you want it to.
Yes. If you have commissioned an original physical painting and would like additional prints of it, that is absolutely possible at an extra cost. Your original painting will be photographed and scanned at high resolution to produce your prints.
You can also have your original painting printed on merchandise like mugs, totes, and phone cases. Again this is an add-on rather than included in the base commission price.
Digital commissions are even more flexible since the high resolution file is already print ready. You can order prints on high quality paper, canvas, or on merchandise directly from that file.
If you have a specific request in mind that is not covered here, just get in touch and we can work something out together.
Yes. By default I retain the right to reproduce commissioned work as prints, digital downloads, or products, and to feature it in my portfolio and marketing. The physical piece is yours completely. If you would like to purchase full exclusivity, meaning your commission will never be reproduced in any form, that is available for 75 percent of the base commission price.
You've commissioned a piece of art and you want it to be yours completely. That makes sense. As the artist I retain the rights to all of my creations, including commissioned work, which means I may reproduce your commissioned portrait as prints or products unless you purchase exclusivity. If you are not bothered by the idea of other animal lovers owning a reproduction of my interpretation of your pet, you do not need to worry about this. Most people do not. But if you are the type of person who wants to own the image entirely and keep the likeness of your animal exclusive to your home, that is your prerogative and the option is there for you.
Your satisfaction matters to me, and the process is designed from the start to make sure you love what you receive.
Here is how it works:
Before any painting or drawing begins you will receive a composition study showing how your piece will be arranged. This is your first opportunity to make sure everything feels right. You have two rounds of revisions on the composition study before work begins.
When the piece is finished I will send you an image for review. If something is not sitting right I will revise it and send it to you again. You have two rounds of revisions on the finished work.
If after two rounds of revisions on the finished piece you are still unhappy, the commission is considered fulfilled. The piece is yours and no further revisions or refunds will be offered.
The composition study and revision rounds exist precisely so that we never reach that point. By the time a finished piece lands in your hands you will have seen and approved the composition, guided the direction, and had every opportunity to make sure it reflects your vision. That process is your assurance and mine.
If at any point during the process something feels off, please say so early. The earlier a concern is raised the easier it is to address. I would always rather know than not know.
Yes. A 50 percent deposit is required to secure your booking, and no creative work begins until it is paid. Once that deposit is in, that is my signal that you are ready for me to begin.
From the moment your deposit is paid you have 24 hours to cancel and receive a full refund. No questions asked.
Once your composition study has been delivered, creative work has begun. From this point the deposit is non refundable. If you choose to cancel at any point during or after the creative process, your deposit will be retained and any remaining balance will be returned to you in full.
If I need to cancel your commission for any reason at all, your deposit will be returned to you in full. That is a promise.
You have 24 hours from the moment your deposit is paid to cancel your commission and receive a full refund. No questions asked.
After that 24 hour window, cancellations are handled as follows:
If you cancel before your composition study has been delivered, please get in touch as soon as possible. While the deposit is non refundable at this stage, no significant creative work has begun and we can discuss the situation openly.
If you cancel after your composition study has been delivered or during the creation of your piece, your deposit is non refundable. Any remaining balance you have paid will be returned to you in full.
Regardless of when a cancellation occurs, I retain full rights to all creative work produced at any point during the commission process. This includes composition studies, works in progress, and any finished work. I am free to rework, publish, sell, or reproduce that work in any form I choose.
If I need to cancel your commission for any reason at all, your deposit will be returned to you in full. That is a promise.
